Who can nominate?
These **nominations will** be submitted by members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of **peace** research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous **Nobel Peace Prize** Laureates;
As in the USA other countries have members of their national assemblies who are nut cases.
The thing that no one will ever see is the final vote. Probably for the best.

It’s looked like Trump was getting somewhere in terms of better relations with North Korea, but haven’t things more or less gone back to square one and the relationship kind of soured again?

Wasn’t he also involved with that UAE-Israel agreement recently and something to do with a Serbia-Kosovo agreement.

Some other international relationships have soured a little bit more like with Iran and China.

There must be someone more deserving of it than Trump, perhaps Bill Gates? He’s done a lot of good stuff with his foundation.

I’m with you on that suggestion. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bill got one one day. (And he can use the $1 million dollar prize to buy new napkin rings for his villa on the Moon).

If you count the bombs dropped and wars started under his command, I think he leaves all other presidents behind as a peace maker?
I think he looks at war with a cost to benefit mentality and knows they are loss makers.
Better to stay at home and spend on your fleet just in case than burn through cash in overseas operations.

Buy Greenland? Trump has had second thoughts and wants to swap it now with Puerto Rico. They are American citizens becoming Danes and are pissed off about such a deal but they should be happy because they are better of as Danes. Higher wages, free healthcare, good pension, free tuition, family support for lower incomes, child support and all that.

I agree with what you say but the problem that smaller Pacific Nations face is you can not enforce the provisions of your own EEZ except at the point of a gun. Without help from Australia and New Zealand some Pacific Island nations would have their fishing grounds plundered.

I know that PR is a bottomless pit. You throw in any amount of money and it magically disappears. And we have already the Dutch Caribean islands like Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius we don’t need more, they all are costing us money, a constant drain on our resources.

![IMG_6378](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/gcaptain_maritime_forum/original/3X/8/f/8f919bdb945e57200b568bcd71a604345711861c.png)

This is a map of the situation in 1674 of the then Dutch Empire. We have fallen deeply since then. Ours was the whole of Indonesia, Formosa (Taiwan), Ceylon (Sri Lanka), areas on the mainland of India, the Cape of Good Hope area where vegetables and livestock were grown to feed the ships on their way either to the Far East or on the return trip. A halfway larder you could say. Further Surinam and the Guyanas in South America. And not to forget we purchased the island of Manhattan for the equivalent of $24 worth of beads and trinkets. Even adjusted for inflation, this is probably the real Greatest Trade Deal Ever. We also had a trading post on the island of Dejima in Japan from 1641 to 1854. We were the only foreigners allowed to trade with the Japanese.

![IMG_6377.PNG](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/gcaptain_maritime_forum/original/3X/9/f/9f65482120b1ab686b2a4d55403f5eb48c32402c.jpeg)

The list is long apart from Cape of Hope area there were other African colonies:
Ghana (gold mines)
Angola (Luanda, Sonyo and Cabinda)
Arguin
Goree (in Senegal)
Moçambique (Delagoa Bay)
Sao Tomé

Indian Ocean:
Mauritius

Middle East:
Mesopotamia (Iraq, Al Basrah)

Indian Subcontinent:
Bengal (Bangladesh)
Burma (Myanmar) (Mrohaung (Arakan), Siriangh, Syriam, Ava, Martaban)
Ceylon
India (Suratte, Malabar, Coromandel)

Asia-Pacific:
Dutch East Indies(Indonesia)
Malacca
Molukken or Maluku Islands
Taiwan (Tayowan)
Tonkin/Annam (Vietnam) (Tonkin, Hoi An)
Jemen, Al Mukha (Mocca)

We were top of the list. Yes, we were awesome also in those days.

Part of Dejima in Nagasaki has been preserved and can be visited.
I visited in 2012, both Dejimas and Glover Garden that commemorate the British presents in Nagasaki after the Dutch.
Here is the brief history of the Dutch settlement;

Some houses and even the Dejima Tree that was transplanted from Jakarta is still there:

Part of the original wall around the settlement is still standing.

PS\> Like everywhere else in Asia, the Portuguese was there first.

Incredible moment… Just incredible. What a 3.5 year journey. Stunning, strategic and exceptionally well crafted diplomacy. Start with the economics, not the conflict… then promote the goal of prosperity, and with it PEACE.
