Application Time

I see a lot of questions about the application processing time and thought I’d post a “real time” schedule as it happens.

I had a 200GT w/ sail and assistant towing for 10 years but failed to renew when I changed professions, that was 14 years ago. As I ready for retirement again, I decided to renew my license…so

May 1, 2014 Decision made to obtain MMC, made appointments for TWIC and Physical
May 8, 2014 Physical completed - I was sent to Physical Therapy to prove capabilities since the DR had never filled out the Medical form and didn’t understand the requirements
May 16, 2014 Attended 1 session of PT, which was actually a Functional Ability Test, no problems at all - report sent to DR
May 20, 2014 Submitted Request for Transcript of Sea Service from my USCG time underway - up to 90 day wait reported
May 22, 2014 Back to DR to have Physical updated, also had them add in the uncorrected vison number which was missed
May 23, 2014 TWIC appointment, 2 hour drive for 15 minutes in the office, VA Beach TWIC office is great!
May 28, 2014 Transcript of Sea Service delivered 1st class mail, Thank You USCG Topeka PPC!
June 1, 2014 Enrolled in Blended Red Cross First Aid and CPR course, completed Internet portion, skill exam scheduled for 6/22
June 10, 2014 Obtained the 3 references and took my oath
June 10, 2014 Paid all fees
June 10, 2014 Asked a question via Email to Iasknmc about if I apply for renewal, reissuance or original -
June 10, 2014 Drug test donation
June 13, 2014 Iasknmc responded with cites from the CFR
June 15, 2014 When reviewing the physical I noticed that the color test wasn’t completed correctly (just 5 plates given) Called to get another test, Orig DR couldn’t do it since they just “screen” color vision
June 16, 2014 Made appointment with local Eye DR for color vision test, I didn’t want to chance a long wait based on color vision
June 16, 2014 I requested a copy of my old sailboats document from USCG VDOC to document ownership for the small boat service
June 16, 2014 Drug free report received via US Mail
June 17, 2014 Received the document for the sail boat
June 20, 2014 Color Vision test complete, letter written that meets requirement of the physical (I hope!)
June 20, 2014 Finished sea service documentation
June 22, 2014 Completed Skills exam for First Aid / CPR Card
June 23, 2014 Picked up my TWIC, 1.5 hour drive for 10 minutes in the office, Hampton Roads TWIC office is great also
June 24, 2014 Scanned my package and emailed it to REC, auto reply received
June 27, 2014 REC sent package to NMC as Renewal
July 7, 2014 Application passed safety and security
July 7, 2014 Being screened/evaluated MED

I’ll add to this as I’m updated. In the mean time, I’ll study for whatever test is required - hopefully this will help new applicants time their applications, it took 56 days to get the packet together before it was sent to the USCG
