I will leave the turdwater bashing up to fraqrat, I didn’t work there long enuff to have a real bad experience with them. It was just bad.
To answer your question an AB rigger is just a deck hand who drags chains around on the deck to tie things down so they don’t move around in haevy seas. You will also hook and unhook things to the crane, nothing magic or special. The oil companies just want riggers to have a riggers card, to say you were schooled in crane signals, and the use of a chain binder.
So easy then huh? I’m not afraid of hard work nor do I disappear when it starts, just looking to get a good idea. Thanks buddy.
What made it “bad” if you don’t mind me asking? I’m working with a shitbox tug company as it is, so it can’t be MUCH worse than here lol.

It was almost 20 years ago when I was there, Turdwater is a big company, at one time they were the biggest boat company in the world as far as the number of boats they own. It is just mismanaged, and they have a run it till it breaks, then we will think about fixin it mentality. It is a good place to learn, just keep your expectations low and you will be fine. use them as a stepping stone to something better, when it comes up.
Gotcha. I’m in the early stages of going after my license, and they offer instant paid schooling, so we’ll see how it goes. Thank you for your time and advice, it will not be discarded.

When I started in 88, the OS’s were only getting 45 a day and the AB’s 55 if I remember right. My how things have changed, and good luck to ya.
They offered me $300/day @ 28/14.
I’ve got AB unlimited w/ BST, LB & PSC, RFPNW. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. but it’s a HUGE raise for me. Lol

It may be a lateral for you career wise going from shitbox tugs to shitbox OSV’s. Use them as a foot in the door to the mud boat world. Use them to pay for all your training then get a real job.
