# AB Jobs NY

Fairly new to the industry and currently working in the GOM with a supply company and was looking to make a switch back home for work(New York), does anyone know any good start up tug companies I could apply too? I’ve got an AB special and have no tug experience so I’m willing to take whatever is available. Thanks in advance for your help guys

They seem to hire idiots, so if you’re squared away with some experience you should be all set; unless they want to keep hiring idiots that is.

I’ve said this several times already, BOUCHARD is always looking for people. They have their DH’s on a 2/1 schedule. The pay isn’t great, but it doesn’t suck either. It certainly couldn’t hurt to apply and see what happens. Reinauer is a top tier company who hires experienced personnel only. People do not cycle through there very often. Moran is right up there as well in terms of being a selective company when hiring. The market is flooded with mud boat people trying to get back to and/or applying for the first time to tug companies. Bouchard generally WON’T hire OSV people. Bouchard believes that OSV people will eventually leave to go back to the patch when the upswing starts again…which is generally true. Good luck in your search. Stay safe out there.

I agree with all of his and I’ll go a little farther and say that you mud boat people can stay down there. You were getting big money while we were getting average or worse pay. Now that the gulf has dried up you want to come up here and further weaken our wage by working for cheap. We don’t appreciate it, and like said above when the oil patch does pick back up you all will leave and go back south, while we keep tuggin on

yes and they have the balls to complain about the pay…you could be un-employed after. Ungrateful.

It’s funny how “Yankees” with many years of seagoing experience are unwelcome “carpetbaggers” when they go South to fill vacant high wage jobs that there are not enough qualified locals to fill.
Yet, when the “Gomers” with no experience outside of the Gulf oil patch for a few years, head West and North, willing to work for peanuts and suppressing wages as they come, that’s ok. We’re suppose to be glad to forgo overdue raises, and race to the bottom alongside the “Gomers.”.

Wow that took a negative downward spiral quick, I came down here to build experience to eventually go back home cause no one wanted to hire a green OS in NY, that’s kinda depressing that I’ll be limited to employers because I got my start in the oil patch.

I see NY water taxi hiring OSs. I don’t believe that no one would hire a green OS here in NY. There was just better money to be had on OSVs

I looked down in the GOM as well. I was within inches of getting hired at HOS. I agree with Bayrunner, the more I looked down there, the more I didn’t like what I found out. I am tugboat trash through and through. It just took me to look at OSV’s to fully realize it. I belong on tugboats. If you’re looking for work to put food on the table, then I think that’s great. But it Does suck, as Tugsailor stated above, when wages are driven down. Keep Tuggin Tuggers!!

oh I love being tug trash. Dressing like a slob, growing beards, wearing flip flops, crying about crew change, Milking weather to manipulate crewchange, lying to dispatch, denying damage… I do love it. I Can’t give that lifestyle up.
