This month’s Marine Technology Reporter has an article about positive developments in the Atlantic Provinces.

](http://www.marinetechnologynews.com/magazine%5B/QUOTE%5D)

For sure. We’re nationally sort of proud of our robotics tech and know-how. And all the eastern sea-board type marine geodetics people that I’ve worked with have been tops. And all the newfs I’ve worked with in at sea have been geodetics people. They’re doing something right. I’m not surprised by this article.

Right on: maybe some 500 new jobs coming online for the Maritimes mariners. Gotta love Stat. I take back what I said before about Norwegian investment practices. Beklager, buddies. 🙂

I think it means it makes more sense to keep it and the crews working even on a reduced scale and primed for the next job rather than lay them aside and have to crank up from zero down the road.

I frequently find myself hoping that you are right. This time is no exception.

(not in the sense of right/left, politically. We’re never going to agree there. But seeing as how that dichotomy seems to get further and further away from morality, legality, and reality day by day; it can’t be all that important anyway, can it? I mean that I hope you are, you know: ‘correct.’ Obviously.)
Baffinland Iron Mines wants a winter sealift to deliver mining equipment. They want Fednav’s icebreaking cargo ship: Nunavik

And their concerns were heard:

If need to land cargo on substrate that’s not strong enough for a plane, and too solid for a ship, the answer is obviously airship. I think the North could keep a couple of airships busy all year.

Yeah. The TFWP is a has been abused by employers in many sectors. The thing is deeply, embarrassingly flawed, and doesn’t represent our values. What I find interesting is that the govt settled with the unions on the same day that the EU ratified CETA.

Not directly shipping related but a territorial dispute over Hans Island in the Nares Strait, which separate Ellesmere Island in Canada from Greenland, thus affecting shipping in the area.

How to settle such disputes, go to war or exchange bottles of booze?: [http://www.arcticnow.com/politics-policy/2016/11/07/in-the-battle-for-sovereignty-of-a-disputed-arctic-island-canada-and-denmark-use-whisky-and-schnapps/](http://www.arcticnow.com/politics-policy/2016/11/07/in-the-battle-for-sovereignty-of-a-disputed-arctic-island-canada-and-denmark-use-whisky-and-schnapps/)

Maybe herein lay a good lesson for others? No Aircraft Carriers, just an exchange of Bourbon and Mai Tai could settle the South China Sea dispute.

Oh, I forgot, Trump is a [Teetotaller.No](http://Teetotaller.No) Yam Seng for him.

Going to war with Denmark is a terrible idea, anyway. Now that we have a free trade deal, Danish ice cream is going to become an important part of my life. Can’t let some frozen, salty rock screw this up. No one wins that war.

Not in the Canadian Arctic, but “near enough”.
