5 Year Old overboard?

You seem to have info no one else does. How do you know who did what?

I was not referring to any written rules, but a seafarer custom that goes back a lot longer than SOLAS.
BTW: Where in SOLAS does it say anything about the obligation to rescue people in peril sea?

I don’t know your background, nor do I think that being an ex “responder” give you the right to chose who to rescue and who to let drown, based on your perception of them, or their action.

I haven’t picked up a lot of dead bodies, but I have picked up a lot of live people in peril at sea.
During the exodus from Vietnam In the late 1970s I was Master on a Drillship working in the the South China Sea. There were a lot of refugees around who had left everything they knew behind to seek a new life anywhere they could get to.

We picked up over 4000 refugees from leaky boats in the 18 months I was there.
I did not judge them, nor ask why they put themselves in that position. No matter how much pressure was put on me, I stuck to the old and unwritten rule; you do your utmost to save people in peril at sea, using whatever means available.

If you find my attitude to be stupid, I feel sorry for you.

When did I question your attitude?
Glad you saved lots of folks.
Again glad these two folks were saved.

But how/why did it happen?

This is still a stupid event that did not need to happen.
As the original post; We are still missing something here.

thanks now i see. Jesus!!!

the USCG seems to be missing from the news. The police are handling it and doesn’t seem to be able to articulate. they probably think port comes in a bottle and is red

now that i see the picture of the “port” you could push your wife’s lover through there with just a little running start

You’d think Disney would know there would be adventurous children on board and try to make things a little more child proof. Sitting on that rail is something I might of tried as a kid, I’d already broken a bone by the time I was 5. Gravity and tree incident.

the father will probably sue disney

the father will probably sue disney
as you all know no good deed ever goes unpunished

If he does sue them, it won’t be for the good deed of coming back to get him and his son, it would be for a bad design that lets kids fall off

  • As of now I have no idea EXACTLY how the kid went through there, so maybe it was some Darwin award photo-op thing or maybe he was doing what kids do.
