There is only one exam for Int’l and Inland, all tonnages take the same exam. This change was made in 2008.

There are courses approved to substitute for this exam, but they can only be used for endorsements for less than 200 GRT.

Talk to your command. Ask them to look at the MITAGS course that the CGC Willow sent our people to years ago. I was the BM on there and took the 200t course with a bunch of our guys (a few of us). It was the best decision we made, and it made us all more proficient, especially doing escorts and boardings post 9/11. Something to be said for having a smidge of knowledge and therefore respect for the licensing requirements. It certainly made for much easier boardings when the junior personnel have some knowledge about what the heck we are looking at…
So if you need it, call MITAGS and explain your situation. They may have a course just like what you need. Quite frankly, if you are at a station and not on a ship, you may want to call around and see if other station in your sector need to send BMs to the course.
I know we did the 200t course there and the old GMDSS at Mass Maritime. Just a thought. Good luck Boats.

You don’t know it obviously, but your question was highly suspicious for a number of reasons. To you, it was nothing and we should have just given you the answer you wanted straight away. But you set off alarm bells, and we are suddenly all douches here for not giving you instant gratification. Nice man, real nice.

I still think he needs to start with a “leadership” course at Miss Porter’s School, or maybe the Dale Carnegie Institute.
