Question for Chief Cavo

Since you seem to be the man in the know, I was wondering; if a licensed mariner’s credential is/was withheld for medical reasons, after failing to be successful appealing said withholding, would that man be considered disabled in the eyes of the Social Security Administration?
And if that has been the case, could you expand on that? That kind of detail may be of use to some mariners.
Thanks,
BB

You have to take that up with the SS Admin. There are lots of lawyers that make a specific living from these type of cases -one branch of the government saying you’re unable or disabled doesn’t mean a thing to another branch of the government. My brother-in-law the lawyer makes these kind of cases a mainstay of his practice.

You’d have to check with SSA. I have no idea of their policies.
