This news took me by surprise as rumors had them scrapping rather than repairing their present fleet.
OSG Building New Barge as replacement for InterCon Equipped Tug/Barge Unit
They say there will be one new build with an option for another one. Hopefully they will go for the second one as they have two “newer” Intercon equipped tugs that are mated with older barges right now.
This is good news for all of the Officers as they are members of AMO and most hold 1600 Ton Ocean Licenses. AMO does not have many jobs for members with limited licenses.
With the problems that Bouchard may or may not be having in the future, this might be the time for a little bit of competition once the Oil Majors start looking at Bouchard’s operation a little closer.
