Chouest is laying off. Looking for new job

Word is Chouest cut all AB pay to $195 a day company wide

I am going back to work next week and I have not heard anything yet. I have called a few friends that work at Chouest too and they have not heard anything either? Maybe this is one division only?

Nope, across the board. We just passed the word on to all our guys today.

What about the bridge and engine room? Pay cuts as well?

Layoffs seem to be across all divisions. There have not been any pay cuts. Yet…

Heard the same over here. Engineers that dont hold a watch, but work as extras, get QMED money.

Pay cuts for mates down to $550.00 a day. Master, relief, and chief mates unaffected. This is coming from the master who got the info from the coordinator. Even time for everyone on the boat.

It just got worse. My coordinator called me just now. We are going to $515 a day. Fleetwide.

For mates that don’t have to do a damn thing that’s great pay

From what you gather the northern academy folks will be the first to get axed? Ignorance at its finest right there.

That must be for stacked Captains that don’t have their own watch. I was a mate and even before they cut my pay I wasn"t makin that much.

I heard that close to 45 vessels are being laid up. Any word from inside the ECO war room?

AB’s are being cut to $250/day. Engineer who don’t hold a watch are being cut to QMED pay and the 4 guys in the bridge and engine room that hold a watch are unaffected. Straight from my coordinators mouth.

My favorite part about reading threads about pay down in the gulf. Either every single person gets paid differently for doing the same job, or half of you lie about your wage and the rest are honest. Fun to read.

But I am sure there are the guys who give a good sloppy blowjob not having their pay or schedule affected. There is no way Missah Gary is going to fuck with his most treasured mens’ pay.

Then they’re mates. Holding a master’s license doesn’t make one a captain, everyone except the master of the vessel is a mate.

These supply boat companies are the only place I know that pays you captain pay for riding as a training mate just because you hold a master’s license.

I recently heard of a long time ECO employee that wanted to talk some extra money because of an endorsement he held to cover the COI. I heard that the manager told him he would have an answer for him about the money that same afternoon. The carry all showed up and escorted him straight to the airport. I never thought much of this fellow, but he had been with the company more than 20 years.

Blowjob skills mean nothing right now, especially when the people giving them are lined around the block and they are starving. They want people that are going to do their job and not cause any trouble.

It is just a different world. I wouldn´t waste much time trying to wrap my head around it. I did the same crap when I was on those boats. I just was never exposed to the unlimited scheme over an entire vessel. Rarely do you see a vessel full of unlimited Masters filling every single level on the COI or minimum manning document unlike the supply boats where it is not uncommon for every level to be filled with a master of the same level. After being exposed to it a bit now it is not a big deal. But then again I am the captain and on a working vessel there is only one king ding-a-ling.

I wonder what endorsement he had that he thought was so special.

I know what it was but if I said it would identify him.

That’s because on unlimited ships you need to sail as a chief mate to get a Master license. I expect it would be rare to see a big surplus of unlimited masters onboard because the license pipeline has a choke point. It’s so easy getting a 1600 ton master that is possible to have one and be a barely competent watch stander. One year of time as mate doesn’t mean much, especially if it’s a lot of dock/DP time and also especially if you are the second guy on a two person bridge team. (Technically most of these guys getting time as “mate” is a lie, there can only be one OICNW on watch at a time so the second guy isn’t actually even the mate on watch.)
