VALLEJO: STUDENTS AT CAL MARITIME PROTEST PROPOSED CUTS TO CAL GRANTS PROGRAM
VALLEJO (BCN)

Students at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo plan to fax letters to the governor and state Legislature today protesting proposed cuts to the state’s Cal Grants program.

Last week Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger indicated that the state could be forced to delay payment of Cal Grants to students, which would make it difficult for thousands of students to stay in school and graduate, according to Cal Maritime.

Cal Grants are funded by the state and administered by the California Student Aid Commission.

Eligible students can get up to $9,700 a year to pay for college expenses at any qualifying state college, university or career or technical school in California, according to the Cal Grants program.
